Yiannis Messinis was born in Messinia (Peloponnese) in 1960 and studied painting at the School of Fine Arts, Athens (1981-1986) with Ilias Dekoulakos and etching (1986-1990).  He also took lessons in painting at the Royal College of Art, London (1985). He had his first one-man exhibition in Athens (1990).  However, he had participated to group shows already since 1981.  Other solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad followed as well.  His work is mainly expressionist.  He lives and works in Athens.
